Have you checked out MLS lately and noticed that property values in Vancouver are down? If so, you may have decided to stay put a little longer and make the most of the space you have.
Here are some tips to help your small space feel….. well, more like home:
- Let go of what you don’t use. Try thinking what it would be like to pack up and move to another country. What would you be heartbroken to leave behind? What could you easily/or somewhat easily live without? Things that you forgot you had, items buried deep in your closet could all probably find a new home.
- Analyze your art. Take your art pieces off of the walls and size them up. Do they coordinate? Are they sized right? Do you have too many? If you’ve got a lot, try downsizing the ones you display and plan to rotate your art
periodically. - Does your furniture fit your space properly? Is it good looking and functional?
A good rule of thumb is to start by identifying one key architectural feature in the room — the fireplace, the picture window, the built-in display shelving for example. Now, start developing a furniture layout around that item so that when you are seated you are actually ‘accentuating’ that feature…..and enjoying it. What a lost opportunity if your conversation seating area has it’s back to your view of the ocean!
If you have pieces of furniture that never get used or look out of place try changing their position or removing them altogether from the room. You may even be surprised by how much space you actually have without that piece of bulky furniture. If it doesn’t fit in another room, let it go.
